We
at ABCD Books continually look for new sources of books - which,
in many cases, happens to be our customers. Unlike new bookstores,
second-hand bookstores cannot simply order books from a publisher
or warehouse. So before you put your books in a garage sale, please
give us a chance to bid on your collection! We offer the most
competitive prices around.
ABCD
Books buys whole libraries as well as single volumes. If you have
three or four boxes of books that you want to sell, please feel
free to bring them to the shop at 23 Bay View Street, Camden,
Maine, Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Should
the amount of books you have to sell be larger than you can carry
in your car, we will be happy to travel in a radius of 100 miles
to appraise your books and make an offer.
ABCD
Books buys books outright, not on consignment. We pay the seller
one-third of the estimated retail value. When purchasing books
we consider both content and condition:
Content.
As we are a general antiquarian bookstore, we welcome books on
a wide variety of subjects. We are more likely, however, to be
interested in those books that match our specialties.
We do not purchase paperbacks, modern textbooks, Reader's Digest
Condensed Books or Book Club editions, nor do we normally buy
old magazines or newspapers.
Condition.
Books published in the 20th century should be in very good condition
with their paper dust jackets. As for books from earlier centuries,
we look for volumes that are intact and clean, with the cover
and spine in very good condition. Books should not be moldy, worm-eaten
or damp-stained. The pages should not be torn or wrinkled. If
the book has either illustrations or maps, they should all be
present and in very good condition. Note that the pages in many
old books could be "foxed" or browned (foxing and browning are
the result of chemical impurities in the paper); this does not
necessarily detract from their value.
